LET’S GO RULE

EDITORIAL

One of the reasons for the “democratic fatigue syndrome,” as Van Reybrouck calls it, might be an extreme and paradoxical form of “dis-intermediation.” The latter would consist not in the endorsement of a (real or alleged) leader to the detriment of some intermediary units (churches, unions, parties, etc.) but rather in the coveted elimination of the duality of representatives and represented. Filling the Void or Filling the Full? On the Concept of Grace

Num°17 GRACE
asterisk

Grace is not sacrifice: it is the opposite of sacrifice in the field of religious language and experience. Nowhere as in the idea of the Holy Trinity does the overcoming of the principle of narrow or strict distribution of space and resources in general come to light. If the Father were to reduce himself in favor of the Son, we would have not grace, but sacrifice. Leggi tutto »

ACTIONS AND THEIR ACTORS

EDITORIAL

To study actions means to thematize that which is most common and hidden; by thematizing it, one discloses its non-obviousness. Every theory of action begins by describing a specific conceptual field, one that is characterized by self-understanding and motivation, within the more general, semantic area having to do with movements, processes, and behaviors. Evaluation? Yes, But Not This Way!

 Editorial

Our society, based on the sharing of information and knowledge, is also an evaluation society. The parents of school age children have the right, for example, to know the criteria on the basis of which grades are given. Almost everywhere this generates evaluation grids. Leggi tutto »

Evaluation and Novelty

The thesis of this essay is that the current research quality evaluation system is allergic to greatness. The mantra of innovation seems intentionally made to caution us against novelty. Leggi tutto »

Issue 12 – Luck

Num°12 LUCK
Numero_12FORTUNA

THE CORE OF FORTUNE

EDITORIAL

The thought of having barely made it, of having been lucky or, on the contrary, really unlucky often comes to mind.
There are circumstances that are lucky and others that are, clearly, unlucky; people who are luckier than others; entire lives that unfold with no major obstacles and rather full of opportunities, and other lives that develop on difficult paths ever since the beginning and where the lack of opportunities is accompanied by serious negative events. Carlo S. died the very day when the end of the war was announced—he was standing on the roof of his house when he was hit by a bullet shot in a celebration for which he himself was dancing with joy. In this case, we may say that it was a fatality; for him, it was definitely bad luck. Leggi tutto »

The Necessary Space

Editorial

Had Heidegger not become for some time now (and perhaps for a while longer) an embarrassing presence for thought, one could have invited a reflection on Space (in philosophy, in science, in architecture, etc.) via some of his dynamic tautologies such as: Leggi tutto »

The Logical Space of Contradiction

Num°11 SPACE
SMILDE

This paper interprets the criticism of the principle of non-contradiction (whose itinerary is retraced especially in G. Priest and N. Vasiliev) as a way to make space. It is difficult that a blue surface may also be red, and thus non-blue, at the same time and in the same respect. Leggi tutto »

Education as “Accessible Beyond”: A Proposal for Reforming the Educational System

Num°10 EDUCATION
PatellaniFederico

The educational system—first of all, schools and universities—is an institution; yet an institution is a dwelling for human beings. What is this dwelling like? What kind of (public) space is it? It would not be a dwelling if it were not fully accessible, or even better, if it were not a place which we do not even need to access because we are always already in it. Leggi tutto »

The Parties That Are Not There

Editorial

1. Schuld sind immer die Anderen

In Germany these days one can see a Green Party’s electoral poster. On it, Frau Merkel is pointing her finger, like a young teacher, onto the head of Philipp Rösler, FDP President, Vice-Chancellor, and minister of Economy. Leggi tutto »

More Philosophy in Politics: The Formula that Saves the “Form” Party

Through a cross-examination of Aristotle and Lenin, this essay claims that only the rebirth of philosophy will enable the rebirth of parties (and of politics): without philosophy, there are no parties, and therefore there is no politics. Leggi tutto »

The Missed Hit: On the Meaning of Duplicity for Political Parties

Num°09 POLITICAL PARTIES
hobbes

In the following remarks, I address the question of “duplicity” within political parties and politics in general. My thesis is that, whereas it is true that—first and for the most part—we encounter duplicity in politics as a form of grim hypocrisy, nevertheless this does not imply that all forms of duplicity have to be overcome. The dream of an overcoming of duplicity, I argue, brings close the positions, albeit very distant from one other, of Hobbes, Marx, Schmitt, Gramsci, and Croce, and can be considered a legacy of the metaphysics of the One. In what sense is duplicity in politics not only unavoidable but also opportune and necessary? Leggi tutto »

Issue 08 – Reality

Num°08 REALITY
numero8

REALISM WITHOUT REALITY?

EDITORIAL

In recent months, the philosophical and political debates have been characterized by an exorbitant frequency of the term “realism.” As usual, the suffix “-ism” is used to indicate “‘doctrines or attitudes’ (realism, heroism, …) or ‘physical or moral qualities or affections’ (alcoholism, … egoism).” The case is in fact that of a debate concerning the attitude that one should have with respect to reality. First of all, reality is to be taken seriously, it is an inescapable given with which we must come to terms. Amanda Berry, the young woman from Cleveland, was really kidnapped and kept captive with the other women for ten years. Unfortunately, this is not a product of the imagination. Leggi tutto »
