POLITICAL ZOOLOGY

EDITORIAL

The difference between the right and the left dwindles, appears as progressively unclear. With respect to the right and the left, one could say what Augustine maintains about time. If no one asks us what the right and the left are, we know it well; yet if someone asks us, we no longer know. What kind of odd mutant animals have the right and the left become, or are they? In any case, such shock concepts are present and active within the public space; therefore they are particularly relevant to Spazio Filosofico. Leggi tutto »

The Right and the Left: An Asymmetrical Difference

Issue 22 RIGHT and LEFT
Disegno di Beppe Giacobbe

The distinction between the right and the left is not at all outdated. Currently, we certainly live in a time of confusion, when the transition from one side of the line to the other seems to be more fluid than usual. Even though the distinction is at times porous, even evanescent, it would be wiser avoiding asserting that two mountains connected by a valley are one and the same mountain, as Goethe suggests. ASPECTS OF POVERTY

EDITORIAL

The essays collected in this issue examine two aspects of poverty: the obscure side of indigence and the luminous side of Franciscan poverty. More than a mere editorial choice, the matter is that of an objective complexity of the term “poverty.” It is hard to think that the relation between the two forms of poverty is simple univocity; that is, that the word “poverty” means the same thing in the two cases. Such an affirmation of univocity would amount to placing despair (indigence) and joy (“the highest poverty”) on an equal level. Leggi tutto »

Poverty Upside Down

Num°20 POVERTY
Guglielminetti

Christianity introduces a dangerous shift in the order of categories so that poverty ends up assuming a role similar to that played by substance. Poverty becomes the central category to which all others make reference. Health, strength, reason, and success remain part of substance, but substance, the essence, by itself is inessential. LET’S GO RULE

EDITORIAL

One of the reasons for the “democratic fatigue syndrome,” as Van Reybrouck calls it, might be an extreme and paradoxical form of “dis-intermediation.” The latter would consist not in the endorsement of a (real or alleged) leader to the detriment of some intermediary units (churches, unions, parties, etc.) but rather in the coveted elimination of the duality of representatives and represented. Filling the Void or Filling the Full? On the Concept of Grace

Num°17 GRACE
asterisk

Grace is not sacrifice: it is the opposite of sacrifice in the field of religious language and experience. Nowhere as in the idea of the Holy Trinity does the overcoming of the principle of narrow or strict distribution of space and resources in general come to light. If the Father were to reduce himself in favor of the Son, we would have not grace, but sacrifice. Leggi tutto »
