ASPETTI DELLA POVERTÀ

EDITORIALE

Leggi tutto »

Poverty, Responsibility Practices, and Social Welfare

Num°20 POVERTY
Poverty

In recent years, philosophers have drawn attention to and theorized about poverty in the Global South – its etiology, the responsibility the Global North bears for its persistence, and the obligations of relatively affluent states and their citizens to alleviate it. The surge of migration from the Global South to the Global North that started in 2015 and continues apace compounded the urgency of addressing issues concerning the interconnections between poverty and persecution. “The Sweetness of Nothingness”. Poverty and the Theology of Creation in Bonaventure, Angela of Foligno, and Meister Eckhart

Num°20 POVERTY
Hughes

Mendicant poverty is doing rather poorly in scholarship of theology and religious studies over the last decade or so. Kenneth Baxter Wolf’s The Poverty of Riches (2003)questioned whether the voluntary poverty of St. Francis of Assisi had perhaps the counter-intuitive effect of distracting attention from the involuntarily poor. Francis, the icon of self-emptying humility, emerges in Wolf’s treatment as a particularly destructive instance of the privileged class’s well-meaning penchant for “slumming.” Leggi tutto »

Economy revisited. Will Green be the Colour of Money or Life?

Num°07 ECONOMY
VandanaShiva

Economy and ecology are both derived from oikos, which is the Greek word for “home” or “household.” Ecology is the science of the household, both local and at the level of Gaia, our planetary home. Economy is supposed to be the management of the household. Aristotle referred to oikonomia as the art of living. He differentiated it from Chrematistics, the art of money making. Leggi tutto »
